How much mileage can a landlord claim?
By the VoxaMTD team. Last verified 4 November 2026
From 6 April 2026 GOV.UK gives 55p a mile for the first 10,000 business miles in a car or goods vehicle, 25p a mile after that and 24p a mile for a motorcycle. The journeys must be made only for the rental business, such as driving to a let property to meet a contractor.
You can claim the flat rate or the actual running costs of a vehicle, not both. A journey with a private purpose is not deductible, and if an agent handles virtually all the letting work, travel from home is normally not deductible. Keep a log with the date, purpose and distance of each journey.
Our free calculator works out the claim for your miles in the browser, and sends and saves nothing. It is a basic estimate, not advice.
