What is the deadline for MTD quarterly updates?

By the VoxaMTD team. Last verified 31 October 2026

Standard quarterly updates are due by 7 August, 7 November, 7 February and 7 May. They cover periods ending on 5 July, 5 October, 5 January and 5 April.

If your accounting runs from 1 April to 31 March you can choose calendar periods, which end on 30 June, 30 September, 31 December and 31 March. The deadlines stay the same.

You can send an update any time after the period ends, and up to 10 days before it ends if you expect no further transactions. You must choose calendar periods before your first update, because you cannot change update periods for the rest of the tax year after sending one.

Updates are cumulative, so each one covers the tax year so far. If there was no income or expense in a period you must still send the update. Your tax return is due by 31 January after the tax year ends.
