Is there free MTD software?

Yes. HMRC says free products are available for people with simple tax affairs. They may have limits, such as a cap on the number of transactions, so check that a free product covers all your income sources before you sign up.
HMRC does not provide its own software for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, so every option comes from a private provider. Use HMRC's software finder on gov.uk to see products that work with Making Tax Digital for Income Tax. You answer a few questions about your income and get a personal list. HMRC does not recommend any product.
When you compare options, check three things. First, can it send quarterly updates and your end of year tax return? Second, does it support every income source you have, such as UK and foreign property? Third, do its limits fit your records? If they do not, a paid plan or a different product may suit you better.
VoxaMTD's free plan sends MTD quarterly updates for up to two tenancies. Its year-end final declaration is not available yet; it is coming before the first one is due (January 2028). Paid landlord plans are £8.99, £12.99 and £27.99 a month.
