What is MTD compatible software?
MTD compatible software is software that can keep your digital records and send Making Tax Digital submissions to HMRC. HMRC publishes a software finder on gov.uk to help you choose a product that fits your income.
Why it matters to landlords
The finder lets you filter by what you need, such as UK property income, foreign property or self-employment, and by whether a free version exists. Not every product covers every income type, so check the one you choose handles all of yours.
Being able to send submissions to HMRC does not mean HMRC endorses one product over another, so compare on cost, coverage and ease of use.
Before you choose, check whether the product sends quarterly updates and the final declaration, or only part of the journey, and whether you will need a second tool.
