What is Bridging software?

Bridging software is a tool that takes figures from a spreadsheet and sends them to HMRC in the format Making Tax Digital needs. It lets you keep your records in a spreadsheet while still submitting digitally.

Why it matters to landlords

The link between the spreadsheet and the bridging tool must be digital, for example a file upload or cell link, not copying numbers by hand. Some landlords use it to keep a spreadsheet they have built over many years.

The trade off is that the spreadsheet still needs to be maintained, categorised and checked by you. Full MTD software usually does that work through bank feeds and categorisation.
