What is Landlord ombudsman?
The landlord ombudsman is a new independent service, created by the Renters' Rights Act, for resolving tenants' complaints about private landlords in England. Membership will be compulsory for landlords.
Why it matters to landlords
Tenants will be able to complain about issues such as repairs or poor conduct, and the ombudsman will be able to order remedies such as an apology or compensation. The start date is set by the government.
Keeping clear records of repairs, communications and notices puts you in a stronger position if a complaint is made.
Ombudsman membership will be linked to the landlord database, so the two are best prepared for together.
